Dirigo results and upcoming events

Submitted by Mark Rohman on Mon, 05/21/2007 - 20:16.

Greetings All,

This email will be filled with info so please read it all the way through. Please respond so I have an idea of what our numbers will look like for these upcoming events.

Results of our trip to Danvers for the round robin tournament:
1st game Exxex 13 Dirigo 5
2nd game Lynn 18 Dirigo 17

Both matches were played well with Dirigo loosing the second match in the bottom of the 9th inning. A big thank-you goes out to all who made the trip. It really was a lot of fun and for our first time out we played pretty well. We learned some new new things and our confidence is improving with each match played!!! Also discussed at the games were our upcoming events.

Saturday May 26th - Firefighter benefit game in New Gloucester will not be played on the 26th. This is by no means because of lack of work from anyone on the Dirigo Club. Kevin "Irish" Sullivan has been in contact with the folks in New Gloucester and has found out they couldn't put together a team to play against us for this Saturday. However, there is interest in a later date in August. They truly would like to see it happen. At the round robin it was decided to hold a practice anyway but after some phone calls with various members I've decided to cancel. But why you might ask? This Saturday May 26th is the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend and people have plans. Where does this leave us? Our next event...

Saturday June 2nd - Practice at Thomas Point Beach in Brunswick (http://www.thomaspointbeach.com/). John "Lefty" Coray has been in contact with the folks at Thomas Point Beach and they are excited about us conducting a practice there. So much so they are hoping we can attend one of their events in July. He just needs to confirm with them that nobody else is using the sight on June 2nd (I will email everyone one way or the other). This place has potential - lots of people will hopefully be there and can catch us in action. Because I have things going on in the morning the practice will be at 1:00 (or later if we can get more people). We are going to work on infield & outfield drills as well as base running situations. If you know of anyone who may be interested in trying out vintage base ball please bring them along. Also, if you do not have a uniform as of yet please dress as period 1860's as possible - I will bring some extra shirts. I'm planning on bringing the Dirigo banner and, if I can rig up a flag pole, I will have a 34 star United States National flag. There will most likely be a fee ($3.50) to get into the park. John tried to get them to wave the fee but the first time around they didn't bite. If we are part of a big event they will consider it. I will also have handouts for any spectators.

Sunday July 8th - The Essex Club of Danvers is playing in Rye, NH on this date and have asked if we could make the trip. I can not be there as my wife and I will be celebrating our anniversary that weekend. Is there anyone who wishes to take charge and run with it on this event? Please let me know as I need to let Brian (Essex) know.

That's all for now. Your respones are very much appreciated and I look forward to hearing from you soon!!!!

Sincerely,

Mark "Pops" Rohman
President, Dirigo Vintage Base Ball Club
